Computer Requirements for the NinjaTrader Platform
VPS or Home Desktop?
VPS servers are not recommended because they lack bandwidth control, share computer components, and cause software conflicts with the NinjaTrading platform. Using a personal Windows desktop is a good way to learn and master trading before you begin high-frequency trading on a VPS. Do not buy a VPS unless you trade really well.
To run NinjaTrader on a computer, it needs to meet the following minimum requirements:
Type of machine: For actual trading with real money, use a desktop over a laptop or mobile device.
Laptops are tuned for energy savings, not maximum CPU performance. Avoid mobile devices and mobile apps. They are all marketing for newbies. Professionals do not use laptops or mobile devices for trading.
Processor: 64-bit processor.
Frequency: The higher the GHz frequency, the better. 1 GHz is too low. Recommended at least 2 GHz or more.
Processor: Intel processor vs Ryzen processor:
For NinjaTrader, an AMD Ryzen processor is generally considered a better choice than an Intel processor due to its higher core and thread counts. This can be beneficial for running multiple charts and indicators simultaneously, especially if you are a heavy user with many complex strategies running.
The number of CPU cores is essential for running NinjaTrader charts. The more CPU cores there are, the better. For optimal performance, consider one Instrument for one core. For example, opening 10 charts with 10 different instruments recommended at least 12 CPU cores ( keeping two for other apps).
RAM: 16 GB is not enough. Ninja uses a lot of RAM. Get 32 GB or more.
For optimal performance, most users are recommended to have at least 24 GB of RAM, especially when running complex strategies or utilizing features like tick replay. You need at least 32 GB.
Screen resolution: 1024 x 768. Higher-resolution and larger screens require higher-performance computers.
Graphics card: The GPU is not used for NinjaTrading Charts. Most traders record their trading experience and use video cards for gaming and video production. Minimum GeForce RTX from Nvidia 3060. Since NVIDIA released the 5060 - 5090 series, we recommend the 4070 or 4080 series.
Hard drive: SSD, at least 1 TB or more
Monitor: I do not recommend using wide-screen monitors because they limit the number of charts you can position in a column. We also do not recommend using curved monitors. Getting a smart TV can be cheaper than a monitor, so there is no reason to buy the most expensive gamer curved monitor. LG smart TVs are made for gamers and are great for NinjaTrader charts.
I have passed one more funding account with Apex Trading today and made $3,000, which is the threshold for passing the account. I traded NQ, and the Bestorderflow indicators are excellent for passing props.
